Cala D'Or History
Cala D'or, (Golden Cove) began as a local fishing village. It was then "discovered" in the thirties. Soon after, white flat roofed apartments around the town's charming small fishing harbour were built, and soon the word spread.
Cala D'or became a desirable spot to have a holiday apartment. The original marina was situated in one of the small rocky coves with sandy beaches, called "calas", that are everywhere on Mallorca's East coast.
Activities in Cala D'or
Those wishing to explore the areas can ride an open top bus to the picturesque village of Cala Mondrago with its two beautiful coves, or take excursions to the nearby villages of Cala Figuera, Puerto Petro, Sa Colonia de Sant Jordi or the isle of Cabrera. There is also the infamous, fun packed "SeaRider" trip for the more adventurous!
There is a good bus service, which means visitors can make excursions to explore the delights of places like, Cala Egos, Porto Petro, Cala Mondrago, Cala Figuera, Cala Santanyi and Cala Llombards. The Cala D'or marina is the heart of the East coast resort area, attracting the fashionable yachting set. Osa Menor Apartments are ideally situated near the centre, making everything easily accessible.
Cala D'or Beaches
Cala D'or has seven beaches; the biggest and most popular is Cala Gran, approx 5 minute walk from Osa Menor Apartments
A short taxi ride away is the beautiful Parc Natural de Mondrago where you can top up your tan on the golden sands or you follow one of the many, clearly marked, walks through the nearby woodland.
Hidden away out of resort towards S'Horta is the beautiful beach of Cala Sa Nau. Large sun beds, massages available, restaurant and café facilities.
Boat trips are available from the following beaches : Cala Egos, Cala des Pou, Cala Gran, Cala Esmerelda and Cala Ferrera.

Shopping in Cala D'or
Cala D'or is filled with fashionable boutiques, leather shops, handbags and shoes. Designer clothes are available at very reasonable prices. There are numerous little shops tucked away within the pedestrian town centre, something for everybody's tastes. For wines and spirits, you will find the local Spar is the cheapest in town.
Laundry Service
For all your laundry needs, try THE LOST SOCK LAUNDRY on the main road, (Av de Calonge), on the way to the marina next to the Cyber Cafe. This is a self service and commercial laundry. Here you can wash your beach towels, single items of clothing or have them laundered and ironed for you.The train stops right outside the door. You may only purchase cigarettes from one of the four Tabacs shops in the resort.
For fresh produce got to Cala D'or Fruit, and the large supermarket Eroski on the edge of town. Cala D'or Fruit market is at the end of the road, to Cala Ferrera. The mini train will take you to these shops. For souvenir shopping, explore the wide variety of local crafts, traditional pottery and glass, and olive wood carvings available at the local markets.
Night life in Cala D'or
The night life on offer varies from, live bands playing in bars along the main strip, cocktails served with palms, metre long straws & hula garlands, to sizzling steaks & great pans of paella. For live entertainment every night go to The Hacienda bar, situated on the road towards Cala Ferrera. This downstairs air conditioned bar is a great place for families to go to. Different acts on each night, with Karaoke for all those budding singers! There are mini crazy golf, disco, karaoke, & chill out bars.
For all those disco divas, visit FARAH'S DISOTECA on Avenido Bienvenidos, 42. Open very late to early morning.
For those wanting to try something different, try CHIKKI TIKKI Cocktail Bars. Situated in the town and on the marina, they offer an array of non and alcoholic cocktails for all. Check out their pet parrots and cockatoos too....
For those that love to sit and chill, and watch the world go by, Bar Chapeau is a must!! Run by Manfred, who has been in Cala D'or forever.... perfecting his Sangria recipe. This is a legendary drink, but ladies be warned... It is STRONG!! Find this lovely little bar opposite Ca'n Trompe, next to Cafe Plaza in the pedsetrian area of town.
We recommend visiting Steve and Debbie in The Little Tavern, a home from home. They offer bar snacks, great selection in beers and a friendly welcome. Find them near the Cala D'or Beach, down from the Jungle restaurant.
In Cala Egos, for all live sporting events, visit Steve at BAR KO, live acts, Premiership football and much much more..
Food in Cala D'or
Cala D'or's upmarket restaurants are situated in the centre, which is usually buzzing with a lively international crowd enjoying a variety of cuisines. The restaurants offer everything you could possibly want, tapas bars, pizza parlours, burger joints and much more choice for all tastes.
We recommend Indiana Johns, which is just off the main shopping street, where you will get a warm welcome from Lianne & her team, & the best food around. The menu is wide and vast, with something for everyone. From ribs to mouth watering authentic curries, you cannot find better. Try the homemade Apple Pie, one of Mick's favourites.
For great tasting pizzas, eat in or take away, try Cafe Neptuna. Find it up from the Cala Gran beach on the right towards the tabacs. Their pizzas are large, delicious and you can have as many toppings as you like.
On the Marina:
Around the marina try Sancora for fresh fish, Pisces, for snacks and sandwiches, & paella second to none at Botovari, or Vista Cari for delicious Tapas.
Visit Jayne at the new "On the Rocks Bar" with sunny terrace and great views over the marina. Great cold beers and snacks served here. All live sports shown daily.
Heroes Bar on the middle terrace for beers, Sangria and a great view across the marina.
For those wanting to try the local Spanish cuisine, there are no better places to go then; Tipico, Es Caliu and Ca'n Trompe restaurants. These restaurants offer the best Spanish food around! All are situated in Cala D'or centre.
If you'd like to eat at the Captain's table, and try some of the tastiest ribs in Cala D'or, go to The Pirate restaurant, along from the High Street. Great food, great experience.
For those wanting a late snack, you have to try Tony's No.1. Situated next to the mini crazy golf, this small Spanish Bar offers fantastic Tapas from 10pm - 5am. Always busy, you could not taste better local Tapas then here!
Out of town eating:
For those looking for something a little extra special, try Bona Taula in Calogne. This lovely restaurant hidden away next to the church offers mouth watering local cuisine, as well as succulent steaks cooked on an open fire.
Run by Stuart for 20+ years, the reputation of this restaurant goes before it. The staff are friendly, the food fantastic. To the rear is an enclosed courtyard with fruit trees and grape vines, where diners can enjoy the ambience of the real mediterranean. Booking required : Tel : 971 16 71 47.
Zab Thai restaurant in Calonge offers authentic Thai food in a lovely setting.
If you are after some tasty Spanish dishes, head to Porto Petro, around the bay to the small family restaurant of "Rafella y Flora". Yummy tapas and freshly cooked, to order, Paella. Also, ES BERGENT for tapas and paella.
Pop in to Manana bar run by Andreas for a relaxing drink on the harbour front.
Just outside Porto Petro on the road to S'Alqueria Blanca, "Al Campo" offers a lovely outdoor eating experience, juicy steaks and Mallorca dishes.
